Why Book an Off-Season Break in East Lothian

There is no question that East Lothian comes alive in the summer months.

The warm weather, the festival buzz, and a never-ending list of events mean that adventure is everywhere you turn.

But the fun doesn’t have to end there!

At Fenton Tower, we are big fans of taking some time to slow down and switch off in the Autumn or Winter months.

In this blog, we’ll share some of the reasons you should book an off-season break in East Lothian.

A Cozy Castle… Exclusively Yours

Your summer is likely packed with big plans and longed-for trips.

Once the excitement is over, why not catch your breath and press pause with a restorative off-season stay in your very own private castle?

Fenton Tower is an exclusive-use venue. Every inch of our accommodation and grounds is exclusively yours for the duration of your stay, and your days can be paced however you wish.

For example: Embrace the great outdoors with a walk in our expansive grounds or along a local beach. For those who wish to lace up their hiking boots for more vigorous exercise, the 215-km John Muir Way walking trail is close by.

Then, warm up with a glass of your favourite tipple in front of our roaring fireplace.

If the weather isn’t on your side, take it as your sign to spend a day prioritising self-care. Sink into one of our rolltop baths for a relaxing soak, then curl up in one of our sumptuous robes with a steaming cup of tea, a sweet treat, and a good book.

Special Celebrations in Luxurious Surroundings

If you have a milestone birthday, a special reunion, or a trip to trace your roots on the horizon, Fenton Tower is your perfect base.

Our Great Hall, Library, and Dining Room are full of historic charm and modern comforts, providing plenty of space to reminisce, catch up, and celebrate.

If you visit around St Andrew’s Day (30th November 2025), we can create an authentic evening that wows your guests and showcases the best that Scotland has to offer. Kick off proceedings with a professional piper, followed by a cozy whisky tasting in our library and a small ceilidh with a live band to round off the night in style.

You could also time your trip around Burns Night (25th January 2026), and raise a glass to Scotland’s most famous bard with a delectable themed feast at Fenton Tower. What better way to address the haggis than in your own private castle!

By the end of your stay with us, you will consider Scotland your home from home.

And this is simply a flavour of what is in store when you book a stay at Fenton Tower. We can arrange sumptuous afternoon teas, multi-course feasts, fireworks, lively games nights, and so much more.

Our first-class team will be attentive to your every need throughout your time with us. No ask is too big or too small!

Changing Seasons Create Dramatic Landscapes

Every season breathes new life into the grounds at Fenton Tower.

Our grounds look particularly sensational in the Autumn months. The trees transform from shades of green to reds, yellows, and oranges, adding vibrant blankets of colour everywhere you turn.

In the Winter, our rolling hills are covered with an atmospheric curtain of mist in the early mornings. When paired with a touch of frost, the landscape is so enticing that you will find it hard to resist time in the great outdoors!

In both seasons, although the days are shorter, the sunrises and sunsets are unmissable.
